AMOR – Astrochimie moléculaire et origine des systèmes planétaires

La compréhension des mécanismes menant à la formation des planètes et à l'émergence de la vie dans les systèmes planétaires jeunes est un vieux rêve de notre humanité que l'astrophysique du XXIème siècle met peu à peu à portée de main.

Notre équipe est composée d’astrophysiciens aux compétences complémentaires: astro-chimistes, experts en techniques d’interférométrie et d’imagerie millimétrique/submillimétrique et optique, observateurs et modélisateurs spécialisées dans la connaissance des régions de formation d’étoiles …  Une telle variété est nécessaire pour appréhender la complexité des processus physico-chimiques menant de la formation des étoiles à celle des planètes.

Nous nous intéressons à  l’étude (physique et chimique) des différentes phases allant des cœurs denses pré-stellaires aux disques de gaz et de poussières gravitant autour des proto-étoiles
et des étoiles jeunes de masse similaire au Soleil jeune quand il avait environ 0.1- 10 Million d'années (dans la classification de la formation stellaire, les astronomes appellent ces objets: Classe 0/I et Classes II et III).  La «  Starting Grant ERC » 3DICE (commencée en 2013) se focalise plus particulièrement sur l’étude de la chimie des phases diffuses du milieu interstellaire au milieu moléculaire plus dense.


Pour l’observation, nous utilisons les instrument de l’IRAM ainsi que l'interféromètre ALMA (pour ''Atacama Large Millimetre Array") qui est entré en opération fin 2011. Ce grand réseau de 50 antennes est en train de changer notre compréhension de ces objets, grâce à sa sensibilité et à sa résolution angulaire inégalée aux longueurs d'ondes millimétriques et sub-millimétriques. Nous participons d’ailleurs activement à l’élaboration de GILDAS, programme de réduction et d’analyses de données utilisé en astronomie millimétrique dans de nombreux observatoires, comme ceux de l’IRAM. Nous observons aussi avec les grands télescopes optique/Infra-rouge VLT/I de l’ESO.


Coté astrochimie, nous avons développé la base de données cinétiques pour l’astrochimie KIDA qui sont utilisés par une large communauté au travers le monde (voir aussi l'Astrochemistry Newsletter).

Les principaux projets scientifiques impliquant les personnes de l'équipe AMOR sont l'exploitation des données ALMA et le projet Européen 3DICE.

Les services développés au sein de l'équipe sont :

L’équipe est pionnière dans la compréhension de la physique et de la chimie des disques. Le projet CID pour « chemistry In Disks » est à l’origine une collaboration franco-allemande démarrée en 2004 qui inclut aussi aujourd’hui des chercheurs Americains et Taiwanais. Ce projet a pour but de déterminer
les conditions physico-chimiques régnant dans les disques, car elles sont les conditions initiales de la formation planétaire.

Les autres projets menés au sein du groupe sont :

  • Recherche d'exoplanètes de faibles masses autour d'étoiles naines entourées de disque de débris connus (les disques de débris sont des disques ages). Ce projet, mené en collaboration avec l'équipe ECLIPSE et l'Observatoire de Genève, s'appuie sur la méthode des vitesses radiales avec le spectrographe SOPHIE installé à l'Observatoire de Haute-Provence.
  • Etude du milieu interstellaire des galaxies du Groupe Local en particulier pour étudier la spécificité de la chimie et de la formation d'étoiles dans des environnements sous-métalliques.
  • Développement d'outils statistiques pour études de grand champs observés dans le domaine radio millimétriques afin de caractériser les propriétés physico-chimiques du milieu interstellaire à ces échelles.


L’équipe AMOR est aussi partenaire de l’équipe de développement du logiciel GILDAS (Grenoble Image & Line Data Analysis Software, coordonné par l'IRAM). Les activités au LAB sont centrées autour du développement de méthodes d'imagerie pour l'interférométrie, comme la déconvolution, le mosaicing, l'auto-calibration, ainsi que leur optimisation grâce à la programmation parallèle et couvrent aussi l'interfaçage entre le logiciel CASA (utilisé pour la calibration des données ALMA) et GILDAS, via le standard FITS.

Plusieurs de ces activités sont effectuée dans le cadre des taches de services ALMA.
