The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) will be the most powerful space telescope ever constructed, and it is a critical step towards answering the next top science questions. This talk will present an overview of the JWST, including current status and project development. I will also highlight the instruments and their capabilities, and describe a few of the key science cases that are uniquely enabled by JWST’s unprecedented sensitivity and superb resolution. Right now, the first community call for proposals for “Early Release Science” is out! I will present the JWST timeline between now and the first science data acquisition in Spring 2019.
