The COSMIC DANCE project combined new observational methods and strategies for high precision ground based astrometry with modern data mining and statistical technique to identify all the members of nearby associations. The ultimate goal of the project is to derive accurate mass functions over the entire mass range, from the most massive stars down to the isolated planetary mass objects, and to study their dymamics.
These two quantities provide important constraints to understand the initial conditions and mechanisms at work in the formation of stars. COSMIC DANCE has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (grant agreement No 682903) and from the French Agence Nationale pour la Recherche in the framework of the ”Investments for the future” Program, IdEx Bordeaux, reference ANR-10-IDEX-03-02.
