The LAB has been strongly involved in the design and construction of the ALMA (web-address) interferometer. The LAB electronics team was responsible for the conception and delivery of the digital samplers (which convert the detected signals into a data stream for the digital correlator) and numerical filters, which allow the correlator to analyze specific parts of the sampled frequency band at high spectral resolution. The team is now engaged in development and prototyping activities for the second generation of ALMA electronics.
The LAB also participates to the activities of the ALMA ARC-node at IRAM, either through software activities (see GILDAS item), or through temporary delegation of personnel at Grenoble.
