Selected as ESA’s seventh Earth Explorer in 2013, the Biomass mission will provide crucial information about the state of equatorial forests and how they are changing. In addition, it will offer the opportunity to map subsurface geology in deserts. The Biomass mission is based on a low frequency P-band orbital radar, this is the first time this frequency band will be used for Earth observation. Philippe Paillou is member is the Biomass Mission Assessment Group, and is in charge of the study of deserts.
